Why may you need Tear Trough treatment?

The area around your eyes is very delicate and sensitive. It quickly reveals your ageing signs, fatigue, sadness or tiredness. These signs become visible at the corners of your eyes and then gradually spread towards the edges. Tear trough treatment is effective for treating lower eyelid area and dark circles underneath the eyes in patients.

Eye Affected Area

Causes of under eye or dark circles

Gradually, our skin loses its collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid due to the ageing process. This loss makes skin dry, rough, thin and highly vulnerable to developing wrinkles and sagging. The orbital septum located in the lower eyelid area weakens, and soft tissue volume loss occurs in the area of cheek. This results in the accentuation of the bony orbital margin which is present in-between the lower eyelid and your cheek area. Moreover, this transformation leads to fat pockets in the lower eyelids. Together, these conditions lead to the formation of dark shadow underneath the eyes or tear trough depression.

There can be various causative factors for the appearance of eye circles like fatigue, unhealthy lifestyle, poor blood microcirculation and hereditary factors.

Tear Troughs Treatment

Tear Trough Treatment with Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers, like hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers Redensity II and Teosyl, are quite effective for treating the fragile and sensitive area under the eyes. These are injected to plump and add volume to the depressed and effected under the eyes area. Most of the hyaluronic acid based dermal fillers that are used for treating under eyes area can last for about one year. Although the treatment works for most of the patients with under dark eye circles, for some patients having bags under the eyes, surgery might be recommended.

Tear trough filler treatment

Treatment procedure with fillers

The dermal fillers have a local anaesthetic in them which helps to minimize pain during the procedure. The filler is injected at different depths just above the cheekbone. A cannula might be used in some cases to inject the filler. The patient may experience mild discomfort and pain; however, most of the patients tolerate it well.

After the procedure, the injected area is massaged, gently. Most practitioners inject low doses of dermal filler injections in the area to avoid the instance of overfilling the under eye or tear trough area. The patient can have a touch-up under eye filler treatment later on if required.

The tear trough is a treatment procedure that improves the dark and hollow depression under your eye area caused due to ageing or some other reason by using dermal fillers. Dermal fillers like Teosyal, Redensity 2 / Juvederm / Restylane, are mostly used for the tear trough treatment procedure because these are natural fillers and add volume to the area under your eyes to give a rejuvenated appearance.

The tear trough treatment outcomes vary from individual to individual. However, when a trained and experienced cosmetic practitioner performs the procedure, the results of the treatment last for about nine months. The results also depend on the type of filler used for the treatment. In few cases, the results may last for above 12 months.

Most of the patients do not report any discomfort or pain when taking the tear trough treatment; however, we still apply topical anaesthetic to the treatment area before performing the procedure to avoid any pain or discomfort.

You may experience mild and temporary swelling and bruising following the treatment which generally subsides in a few days or a week. It is recommended that you avoid attending the parties during this period, but if you should visit the party, you can apply makeup to disguise it. It is also recommended that you should not undertake any exercise after the treatment for at least 24 hours. After this period, you can resume your routine activities.

The side effects of the treatment are not severe and temporary in nature. The most commonly seen side effects are bruising and swelling which are not severe and fades away in a few days or maximum week. It is recommended that you should avoid any medication before and instantly after the treatment that thins your blood and stimulate bleeding such as aspirin or ibuprofen.
